Wavy and curly hair is a great pride and at the same time a headache for most of its owners. In order not to look like a dandelion, many girls almost daily subject their curls to heat treatments with curling irons and irons, which are known to be very damaging to the health of the strands.

But what if we said curly hair could be taken care of without having to go through those gruelling daily treatments? What if we told you that neat, lightweight curls could also be created from flat hair without the need for a flat iron, curling iron or even curlers?

You've probably heard many times on Tick-Tock or Instagram about the curly method of washing your hair. And, if you haven't gone into the details of this method, or you know the algorithm of the procedure but don't know what products are suitable for it, then this article is for you.

The Curly Girl Method - What it is
The Curly Girl Method, CGM, or 'curly method' is a at-home treatment for curly hair (and not just curly hair), which consists of a small set of rules and simple techniques that help you neatly style curly and slightly curl straight locks.

Firstly, we want to mention that this is not just a one-time procedure, but a way of life, and if you stick to it, your difficult life as a curly-hair owner will be a lot easier.

This method is perfect for those girls who think that they're unlucky and have frizzy hair, but the rest of us have straight or curly hair.

Remember, frizzy hair is in fact just wavy strands that aren't taken care of properly.

The Curly Girl Method

The Curly Girl Method involves the following:

  1. You have to moisturise your hair thoroughly and prevent it from drying out. In other words, you will have to give up curling irons and curling irons.
  2. The point that follows on from the first is that you should never use terry towels. It's thought that they draw out too much moisture, which can damage the hair. Instead, use a microfiber towel, or better yet, stand out an unwanted cotton t-shirt (you can even use a long-sleeved one to make tying it up more comfortable) or a turban.
  3. Your hair care product arsenal should be free of products with silicones, parabens, sulfates, waxes and other products that weigh hair down and dry it out. Ideally, buy products with natural ingredients.
  4. You should get out of the habit of constantly brushing your hair. They can be detangled using fingers or combing with a comb with sparse teeth. You can completely detangle your hair with a comb only before washing it.
  5. You should be very careful when using a hair dryer: keep the heat to a minimum and make sure that you dry it with a diffuser attachment.
  6. Every time before bed, curly hair should be gathered into a high, loose ponytail so that it does not get tangled up too much at night. Cotton pillowcases, by the way, also contribute to curl tangles, so it's best to replace them with satin or silk ones.

When styling your hair with the curly method, the final result will not be visible immediately. On average, it takes about 3 weeks. So, don't be dismayed if your hair after the first time doesn't turn out the way you expect it to. Nevertheless, you will be able to see a minimal effect right away.

Curly girl method: the products you'll need

As mentioned earlier, when washing hair using the curly girl method, you should use products that are free of silicones, parabens, surfactants and other not very useful ingredients that can dry out and weigh down the strands. Products containing SLS/SLES can also be tried out, but it's not a viable option for most girls.

Of the things you will definitely need for successful styling:

Shampoo or a clarifying conditioner. If you suffer from oily hair or if you simply like to "wash out" your locks, shampoo is a good idea, as co-washing requires a gentler treatment. Ideally, if you don't have straight hair, you'll want a sulphate-free shampoo for curly hair.
Conditioner. This product is as much of a must-have as shampoo. Without it, it's unlikely you'll have the right kind of curls.
A leave-in conditioner. A must-have. A leave-in conditioner is good for extra moisture and nourishment.
A styling product. This can be a foam or cream-gel, or any other product. Use whatever you are used to applying to your hair. You can even use several products at once.

Step by step instructions for washing your hair with the curly method

In this case it is better to wash your hair with your head tilted and hair hanging forward. Immediately tell you that all the movements to form curls are performed in the technique of "scrunch". This technique involves folding the locks in the palm of the hand and lifting them in an accordion towards the roots, accompanied by "kneading".

Here are the basic steps for styling with the KGM method:

Washing

Apply shampoo (or a cleansing conditioner) to the scalp and remove impurities. There's no need to spread the product longitudinally as the foaming action of the product on top will help cleanse the hair underneath. For a better cleanse, rinse the hair twice.

Application of Conditioner

  1. This product should be applied through the strands from top to bottom. Don't spare the product - it should cover every single hair. Use a massaging comb for even distribution.
  2. When the conditioner is evenly distributed along the length you need to shape the curls using the same method that we described above.
  3. Rinse off the product with cool water while continuing to perform the same motions that were used to form the curls.
  4. You can then apply a leave-in treatment. There are no special rules here: if you're used to applying leave-in conditioner to wet hair then apply it. If you're used to applying it to wet hair, blot the hair first with a microfibre towel or cotton cloth. Do this, again, without forgetting about the scrunchie technique.

You don't need to wash your hair very often if you're having CGM.

Style your hair at 

Apply a styling product to your hair. Do this while shaping the curls.
When you've finished applying the styling product to the front of your hair, tip your head back and follow the same process with the hair at the nape of your neck to apply the product.
Blow-drying

Here, two different trailers are possible. The first option is a natural drying process (i.e. without the use of a hairdryer). One is to wrap one's hair in a towel or t-shirt, wrap it in a spiral motion over one's head, wait until the excess moisture has been removed, then remove the cloth from the head and leave the strands untouched until they are perfectly dry.

Alternatively, after removing the towel, you can dry your curls with a hair dryer and diffuser. The important thing here is that the air should be cool or slightly warm. The hair can also be blow-dried in a circular motion.

The curly method with smooth hair

The curly girly method can also be used with straight hair. However, the curls will be lighter and more relaxed on them. In general, the algorithm for washing straight curls using this method is almost the same as for curly hair. However, there are a few rules:

  1. Do not brush your hair while applying products.
  2. Do not use a cleansing conditioner instead of shampoo.
  3. You can wash your hair the same way every day.
